Meat

Prime Karub, Short Ribs and Pork Belly
Prime Karub

We did study the food review in advance and we saw that Prime Karub is the signature dish so we added $20 for an upgrade. It was really impressive. The prime karub was well-seasoned with barbecue sauce therefore it is unnecessary to dip into more sauce after grilling. The karub is tender but remains a good chew with a beautiful aroma of the grease of beef.

Short Ribs

Then we tried the short ribs. It is also an upgrade with an extra $20. The amount was fulfilling but the tough texture was not appealing and you need to put much effort in tearing the meat away from the bone. Though, the aromatic beef is impressive.

Pork Belly

We ordered an add-on. The pork belly was certainly a good choice. The grease was so mouthwatering and we like the little punch of the chilli miso giving a little hit of spiciness. A perfect choice to pair with a bowl of rice.

Appetiser

Soybean Sprout, Spinach, Mashed Potato Salad and Egg drop Soup

The appetisers are complimentary to the lunch sets but you can tell that they are made with effort. The portion is larger than you can see from the photo. The soybean sprout and spinach are seasoned with aromatic sesame oil and the vegetables are both fresh and juicy.

The mashed potato salad is even better. The mashed potato is smooth and silky. We both love the subtly taste of fresh milk. The whole flavours go well with the Japanese sesame salad dressing.

The egg drop soup is a surprise! Clear stocking with an unexpectedly delicate flavours from the beef bones. Vegetables like carrots and turnip are found in the egg drop soup that adds a sweet flavour to the soup.

Sides

Rice with Soft Boiled Kirishima Egg

The sets are complimentary with rice, but we definitely recommend an upgrade to the Kirishima Rice. The Japanese pearl rice has a good chew. The soft boiled Kirishima egg was vibrantly coloured in yellowish orange. The sprinkles of sakura shrimps, sesame, seaweed, bonito flakes added a full-bodied flavours to the rice. The Kirishima rice stands great alone but it’s also a good pairing with the grilled meat.

To conclude, the Gyushige’s lunch sets are a great deal with all the appetisers, main course, meat, sides and drinks. You can use a reasonable price for an upgrade of dishes. And most importantly, they all taste amazing.
