新加坡食記:Geylang芽籠正宗越南法包 – Banh Mi Thit by Star Baguette

甫進店內就聽到店員用越南文交談,吃到法包時就知道正宗,和當時在越南吃到的有過之而無不及啊!

Environment

Geylang is an old cute neighbourhood where you could find historical shophouses here, not the fancy and colourful ones but still look nice. You can find lots of restaurants that have been serving for decades just like the previous food review in New-scissors Cut Curry Rice.

Yet, Bahn Mi Thit is the few restos that are new to this neighbourhood with bright and clean interiors.

What did we Order?

All their Banh Mis are SGD $5, four choices in total. Pick your favourite among beef, pork, chicken or ham. We tried all except chicken and we concluded that ALL ARE EXTRAORDINARILY GOOD.

Bahn Mi

Beef

If you are tired of regular flavors of Banh Mi, go for the Beef! The beef was seasoned with black pepper. The little hotness made it soooo mouth-watering. The beef was sliced to a nice thickness, not too thin to lose the texture while not too thick either to be dry and tough. Accompanied by lettuce and cucumber instead of traditional pickled vegetables.

Pork

If you think ‘Pork’ is simply slices of pork then you are wrong. There is a nice variety of pork slices including a piece of Vietnamese ham and a slice of something like pork-knuckle, you can find some soft bones and collagen there and the richness of textures are amazing. This flavor goes with pig liver paste and pickled raddish and carrot, and of course coriander. Compared to the beef version, this is a fresher option,.

Ham

Very similar to the pork version, but the pork knuckle slice was replaced with another layer of ham, so, here are double layers of Vietnamese ham. The pig liver paste sounds weird to people who is not a fan of inner organs but trust me, the paste is silky and creamy without any unpleasant taste.
